Lake Wendouree is a suburb of Ballarat, located immediately west of the Ballarat CBD. At the 2006 census, Lake Wendouree had a population on 1,471.
Lake Wendouree is Ballarat's most prestigious address and home to many of the city's wealthiest residents. The suburb has a high proportion of large homes and mansions with stunning views.
It is also a popular recreational lake for Ballarat's citizens; hosting the annual 'Head of the Lake' competition between local schools and having hosted the rowing and canoeing events for the 1956 Summer Olympics. In recent years, it has been the venue for the annual Goldfields Festival and Springfest. The Ballarat Botanical Gardens is located at the west end.
The track around the lake provides a scenic 6 km challenge to walking, cycling and even running enthusiasts.
A vintage electric tram operates around the lake attracting thousands of tourists each year. Paddlesteamers are another tourist attraction, often seen on the lake for either transport or functions.
Lake Wendouree is home to an abundance of trendy hotels and cafes, including the Lake View Hotel and The Boatshed to name just a few.
