The largest project ever approved by Whitsunday Regional Council in Whitsundays history

On 15 August 2017 the Whitsunday Regional Council granted Operational Works approval for Stage 2 of the Funnel Bay Development. Funnel bay is one of the largest mixed use/residential  projects  ever approved by the Whitsunday Regional Council.

The pre-start meeting was held on Thursday 17 August, 2017 signalling the commencement  of works on site.

This latest approval allows for construction to commence on a number of works, including construction of additional onsite roads and the upgrade of the road from the corner of Jasnique Drive to the end of Langford Road.

In addition to this, the creation of visitor car parking at the beach for general public use has been approved with completion due by Christmas 2017. The developers have decided to double the size of this to give the public both greater access to the beach and also to the bar, restaurant and café at Iconic on Langford.

This approval will also see the creation of 7 larger development sites – 3 of which have Development Applications currently before Council.

Beach Hut Lane will see the creation of 10, 850sqm lots at the entry to stage one for $179,000 each. These lots are level, easy to build on and have a beautiful natural backdrop.

Aqua on Langford will be a further 9 lots all with breathtaking waterfront views accentuating all we have come to know and love about the Whitsundays coastline from $ 300,000 each. These lots, on average are a generous 950sqm and wont be in a body corporate.

The Iconic on Langford apartment complex is also before Council, which will be developed on the high side of Langford Road and adjoins the National Park. The Iconic on Langford is comprised of 30, luxurious 5 star apartments (a mixture of 1,2, 3 and penthouses) all of the highest quality ever seen in the Whitsundays as well as 4 land lots and a stunning bar, restaurant, café, infinity pool and convenience shopping area for residents and guests.

The completion of stage 1 at Funnel Bay (10 Beachfront lots and 4 garden views lots) has allowed the developer and Council to continue to work closely together on further stages. In June Council approved the Master plan showing 34 land lots, 5 villas and 189 apartments to be developed over a number of stages.

Development manager, Christie Leet and Town Planning consultant Kellianne Wynne applauded Councils willingness to accept the change in the marketplace and adjust the previous substantially higher density of 400 apartments to half that in a format that will work.
