Published on: Jun 1, 2021

The Department of Transport and Main Roads recently engineered to conduct a $56 million statewide Bruce Highway Road Operations Improvement Project.
This project is part of the 15-year, $12.6 billion Bruce Highway Upgrade Program, mutually backed by the Australian and Queensland governments.
They will be establishing Intelligent Transport Systems, including at 81 spots across the Mackay Whitsundays region.
Do not hesitate to share a photo with us if you encounter an upgraded electronic sign as you're driving along the Bruce Highway between Mackay and the Whitsundays.

All of this was built to reduce difficulties from climate emergencies and other unplanned disturbances.

A Department of Transport and Main Roads spokesman stated that
"CCTV, flood warning and Bluetooth detection systems will be used to monitor conditions and issues which will report back to road users through electronic signage," the spokesman said.
"Work is underway and will be progressively be rolled out across the district in the next 18 months.
"Minimal disruption to road users is expected.
