Goonellabah

Located east of Lismore is the fast-growing suburb of Goonellabah with a population of about 12,000 as of the last census. Goonellabah was incorporated into Lismore city in 1958, and was the home to the first local TV channel when Television Station 8 began its first transmission from Goonellabah in May 1962.

Goonellabah takes advantage of its position on a ridge, offering spectacular views from the northern side to the Nightcap Ranges. The elevated position also provides cooling breezes in summer and protection from the flooding that can impact downtown Lismore.

Goonellabah is a great family suburb, with plenty of schools nearby, including Goonellabah Public School, Kadina High School, Blue Hill College Lismore, Summerland Christian College and Goonellabah Pre-School. Goonellabah also has plenty of shops conveniently located, both at the Goonellabah Shopping Centre and across the suburb, and Lismore CBD is only about 5km away. Goonellabah has its own medical centre and Lismore Base Hospital is just minutes away. Goonellabah is also home to the administrative offices of Lismore City Council.

Close to the shopping centre is the Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre (also known as GSAC), which has huge indoor heated pools, a water slide, a café, youth centre, indoor basketball courts and a fitness centre.

For a bit of exercise outdoors, Kadina Park features shared bike and walking paths, a basketball court, football field, adventure playground and toddler’s playground.

Enjoy nature at the Birdwing Butterfly Gully, which offers a pleasant walking experience along the tree-lined gully with running water and pools. You may even see a platypus from the viewing platform.
