WHITSUNDAY GOOD NEWS! Eco-Resort could soon be built on Hook Island.

Published on: Dec 3, 2020

Here's a piece of exciting news for tourism here in Whitsundays.

According to the Whitsunday Times, there could soon be a new eco-resort built on the Whitsundays' 2nd largest island.
As you all may know, Hook Island was strongly hit by cyclones during 2011 & 2017.

The Whitsunday Regional Council is now trying to revive and built an eco-resort that will stand the test of nature and "promote a nature-based, sustainable and eco experiences."

As stated in their article,
"A development application for a resort on Hook Island was submitted to the Whitsunday Regional Council in mid-November."
The proposed development will capitalise on some of the existing facilities, with a lot of the resort set to be built in areas that have already been cleared.
Developers hoped the resort would appeal to "the desire for nature-based, sustainable and eco experiences."
According to the application, "the development is in stark contrast to the highly developed, integrated resorts on many of the Whitsunday Islands.
The development will be put on public notification so residents can have their say on the plans.

This is not only good news for tourism but also for our local economy. Local jobs may be available in the construction and operating stages and the facilities may offer a range of activities including snorkelling the fringing reefs, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding with-in the beautiful hook island bays and picturesque nature walks.

Don't forget to check out the full details of this resort in the Whitsunday Times. This eco-resort may offer five different accommodation styles, including camping, glamping, cabins, lodges and villas. Learn more by subscribing to the Whitsunday Times
