Hi, Lorna Serfontein here of PRD Whitsunday, with this week's update.
This week, we wanted to give you a bit of an update about what's happening with the smoke alarm legislation changes and what it might mean for you.
As of the 1st of January 2022, if you are selling leasing, or re-leasing a property, it will require you to be compliant with the new legislation.
If you have a property that you want to lease or sell, you need to ensure that there are smoke alarms in every bedroom in the property and every room that connects to that bedroom.
It could be that you have two bedrooms of one hallway, then that hallway will also require a smoke alarm.
If your bedroom is off a living room, then the living room will also need a smoke alarm as well.
Any room that a bedroom connects to will require a smoke alarm as well.
It’s a bit ambiguous but it's best to go to the Queensland fire emergency services’s website here, if you have any concerns about what's required of you.
If your property is over two levels, you will need smoke alarms on all levels of the property.
Please be aware of what’s required of you because the trades are going to get slammed and there's no beating around the bush with it.
You're going to have a lot of properties that are going to need to be done within a short period of time, as we've got 9 months until the end of the year.
