The Great Barrier Reef will receive an additional $1 billion in funding

According to Whitsunday Times, The Great Barrier Reef will receive an additional $1 billion in funding to protect Queensland's beloved marine treasure.

This funding will support an extra 64,000 Queensland jobs in the reef economy and contribute to the $2 billion already invested as part of the Reef 2050 Plan.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison stated that this action would support the reef's health and the economic stability of tourism operators, hospitality providers, and Queensland communities, which were emphasized as "the heart of the reef economy."

Why is this important? "Supporting the reef's longevity can also help support scientists, farmers, and traditional owners, backing in latest marine science while building resilience and reducing threats from pollution in our oceans and predators such as the Crown of Thorns starfish," he said.

Environment Minister Sussan Ley expressed the investment would merge with the best science working with local communities, industries, and traditional owners.
