Shute Harbour Marine Tenants on Board

Everyone in the Whitsunday is hyped for the Shute Harbour Marine Terminal's reopening before Christmas this year.

The facility will boast three new finger pontoons and a range of berthing options, terminal ticketing , a baggage claim area, a new fuel facility, restaurant, retail space, carpark and a recreational fishing platform.
Its seawall was raised to an extra metre to ensure its resiliency against future storm surges.

Mayor Andrew Willcox said the building was proceeding well despite some setbacks in the building materials due to the impact of the pandemic.

"Like most of the construction industry, there have been setbacks with the delivery of items such as the baggage handling system and terminal switchboard.
"Subject to weather, we should finish construction in the next few months and fit out the building ready for our new tenants with the facility reopening to the public by the end of the year," he said.
"It is exciting that we can deliver a world-class marine facility in the heart of the Whitsundays with established marine and tourism operators on board."
"The fishing platform will reopen to the public once construction and commissioning are finished later this year."
The Shute Harbour Marine Terminal will be a new, modern two-story terminal building with a timber façade using recycled timber from the old harbour.
