WHITSUNDAY E-NEWS REAL ESTATE: 4th week of Jan. 2022

Hi, I'm Annette Neil from PRD Whitsunday.

When you talk about one of the jewels in the crown of Queensland and also happens to be one of the world's natural wonders, I could only be talking about the Great Barrier Reef. It is at the heart of the Whitsundays. It is really what life revolves around here.

Tourism operators are taking out millions of people a year to visit it, to snorkel in it, to enjoy the islands within it. That's why so many of us live here.
You can also go fishing. There's nothing quite like catching a coral  trout, taking it home, and eating it.

The reef is vital to everybody that lives here and to everyone that earns money from the tourism.

It was inspiring to read this week that the government is investing one billion dollars through the reef plan.

It will be exciting to see how they're planning to invest that over time.

Working closely with farmers to manage the water quality, run off and control erosion is on the cards.

There is also a lot of money going to Great Barrier Reef marine park and the authorities there to help manage the reef as it is now.

Also, the Crown of Thorns Starfish is still quite a threat to the reef so managing that and putting in controlling measures is a part of the plan.

It is fantastic to see the government investing in keeping some sustainability for it in the future
